The Future of Carrara Marble

Carrara marble is an elegant and precious stone. In this blog we will give a short history of Cararra marble and what the future holds for this beautiful stone.

Carrara marble comes from an area in Tuscany. The product has been quarried for nearly 2,000 years. It is loved for its beautiful veining and has been used in Rome's Pantheon as well as in Florence.

The marble from Carrara was used for some of the most remarkable buildings in Ancient Rome, such as the Pantheon and Trajan's Column in Rome. As well as many sculptures of the Renaissance, such as Michelangelo's David (1501–04), were carved from Carrara marble. For Michelangelo at least, Carrara marble was valued above all other stone, except perhaps that of his own quarry in Pietrasanta.

Currently Carrara has become a prized item of decor for many wealthy Russians, Chinese and Indians. Their demand for this marble has not only kept demand consistent but has led to an increase of pricing for Carrara marble.

What does the future hold for Carrara marble? While demand for certain kinds of marble has come down because it has been cultivated in other regions of the world, it looks like demand for this unique marble will remain high. While supplies seem to be infinite, there will no doubt come a time when supplies will run low, and so if you truly want it, get it while you can.
